RULES FOR A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE TRAIL RIDE
|
NEBRASKA HIGH COUNTRY RANCH RIDE
|
Your one-stop horseback vacation
|
Though all participants should be aware of the inherent risk of equine
activities, we have established some ground rules for the High Country Ranch
Ride to make your experience safer and more enjoyable for you and the other
participants. Please be prepared to abide by these rules:
1. NO stallions. Anyone bringing a stallion to the trail ride will forfeit their
deposit and not allowed to participate.
2. You are responsible for the behavior of your horse. Be sure your horse is
adequately trained and conditioned and you feel confident you can safely ride
the horse over rugged terrain for the extent of the ride.
3. Be assured your physical and medical condition will allow you to ride
horseback in the rugged terrain of the Nebraska Pine Ridge.
4. Tack should be in good repair—especially check cinches, latigoes and reins.
5. No loping your horse on the trail.
6. The trail boss will lead the ride. Stay behind. Don’t ride off by yourself.
7. Please keep cell phones turned off.
8. Keep adequate distance (at least one horse length) behind the horse in front
of you to avoid being kicked.
9. No smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages on the trail.
10. Riders 18 years and older may choose to wear or not to wear protective
headgear; however they must sign a refusal statement if they choose not to
wear protective headgear. Riders 16 and 17 years old must wear protective
headgear unless their parents or guardians sign a refusal statement on their
behalf. All riders 15 years old and younger must wear protective headgear.
Riders must provide their own headgear that must be an equestrian helmet
and of a standard that meets or exceeds that of the SEI Certified ASTM
standard F 1163 Equestrian riding helmets/protective headgear.
11. Lug-soled boots are hazardous and should not be worn in the saddle.
12. Be sure your horse will tolerate your slicker or rain gear—especially when
mounting and dismounting. Practice this at home before the ride.
13. Shod or unshod is your option. Terrain is mostly dirt, but some rocky areas
can be expected.
14. Be sure your horse will cross streams. Practice before coming on the ride.
15. Saddle use is required; bareback riding or riding double is not allowed.
16. All riders will be required to sign a release of liability agreement.
