Nebraska High Country Ranch Ride had the wonderful opportunity to host Tom Seay's Best of
America by Horseback on their Mexico to Canada ride. These great riders, their horses, mules
and dogs spent several days with us in the Pine Ridge and badlands of northwestern Nebraska.
They rode along the scenic Niobrara River where they were hosted for two nights by Ox Yoke
Ranch, one of the partners of High Country Ranch Ride. Then, after a day's ride across the
"table" and down off the edge of the Pine Ridge, they arrived at Ash Creek Ranch. Here they got
a well-deserved day of rest with only a short trail ride through the hills, canyons and bluffs on
the ranch that included a spectacular view of the Black Hills and badlands to the north. With the
help of the folks at Aunt Myrna's Cabin, we treated them to Dutch oven suppers cooked over a
campfire and they treated us to great company and conversation. It was only because their
original arrangements fell through at the last minute that Best of America by Horseback was
looking for a place to stay in our area. Luckily for us, we were able to cowboy up and
accommodate them at the last minute. It was with mixed feelings that we sent them on to their
next stop, Our Heritage Guest Ranch in the badlands. We knew they would receive a warm
western welcome, but it was hard to say good-by. We're hoping their stay here was as
memorable for them as it was for us.
